My Love for Fashion Became a Brand
Fashion has always captivated me since childhood. I remember making outfits for my dolls as a child by cutting holes in fabric and tying them together. Years later, as a university student, I invested 5,000 francs in Ankara fabric to bring my first design to life. Seeing a simple piece of fabric transform into something unique and beautiful gave me a kind of joy I can still remember.
Even before Ngumabi had a name, I was already reshaping fashion to suit me. I would buy secondhand pieces and alter them using my grandma's sewing machine, adjusting the fit, changing details, and making them my own. I didn’t just want to wear clothes; I wanted them to reflect my identity. The compliments I received weren’t just about the outfits but about the individuality behind them.
Life moved. Motherhood came. There were pauses. But the dream never left; to see African prints woven into everyday life.
Not only in bold traditional outfits for special occasions, but also in simple, modern ways that feel natural. An Ankara scrunchie with your braids. A tote bag that brightens your errands. Earrings that carry a quiet piece of home. Pieces that don’t try too hard, they just belong.
Every piece is thoughtfully made, balancing heritage and modern expression, so it fits seamlessly into wardrobes anywhere in the world.
